MADELEINE LEININGER AS A METHODOLOGICAL REFERENCE FOR ETHNONURSING
Main Article Content
Abstract
INTRODUCTION: Ethnonursing is a nursing method to investigate care. A need to describe Leininger's methodological approach as a reference for nursing research was identified in the academic literature in Spanish. Culturally congruent care encourages us to recognize the dimensions of cultural and social structure as determinants for health, and thus understand health behaviors and people's responses. OBJECTIVE: describe the methodological approach of ethnonursing. REFLECTION: based on three guiding questions, an understanding of the phenomena explained by ethnonursing is investigated with articulation between nursing care culture and clarity in the ethnonursing method proposed by Leininger. CONCLUSION: by considering Leininger as a methodological reference in research, articulation can be found in the cultural phenomena that are involved in health-disease processes. Methodological and theoretical knowledge of Leininger's approach is required to provide culturally congruent care.
