Geomorphological Characteristics. Coastal area: Iquique - Caleta Molle.

Abstract

The article deals with the coastal geomorphological characteristics of the coastal sector between the city of Iquique, in northern Chile, and Caleta Molle, south of it. There are geomorphological theories about the formation of the great cliff of the northern coast of the country. J. Brüggen says that it is a long fault line and e Mortimery N. Saric think that the cliff is rather a very extended marine abrasion platform. The coastal morphology of Iquique is the consequence of several factors. Among them, structural features and local tectonics. The erosion of the sea is also very important in the processes of construction of the modeling forms. These factors are discussed here. Finally, it is important to point out that the morphology of this sector of northern Chile develops in an extremely desert climate.
