Cicero’s speech Pro Archia, more than an apology of Poet Arquias, accused of usurping the Roman citizenship, is a defense of humanitas, literary culture –understood not as mere erudition, but as noble wisdom enriched by highmoral standards.
According to Cicero, humanitas offers the best option to the man seeking utmost inner fulfillment and to become homo humanus.
