Genealogical dialogues: Juan Emar and the hispanoamerican avant-garde

Abstract

From the approach of a “dialogical” vanguard (Bajtin) or carnavalizada literature (Bakhtin) two genealogical dialogues are outlined with the Hispano-American avant-garde. In The Green Bird, the finding of an intertext of national folk music; that is, its dialogue with the Criollism allows its connection with the Anthropophagy of the Brazilian avant-garde and, therefore, features of the Spanish-American baroque.  At Umbral, the various modulations of the total work ideology reveal their kinship with the total text tradition of the Argentine avant-garde and in particular with the debate on the “Wagner case”. Both dialogues will allow the author to make a critical reading of the ontological nationalism that excels in the national artistic tradition.
