Abstract

The authors Nona Fernández (Santiago de Chile, 1971) and Lola Arias (Buenos Aires, 1976) address memory, and particularly post-memory, in the novel Fuenzalida (2012) by the former and in the play El año en que nací (2011) by the second. Both make an effort to collect the memory of those who suffered historical trauma vicariously, as children and adolescents in a context of state horror. These postmnemic exercises constitute a tug of war between facts, memories, speculation and an opaque zone that absorbs and solidifies uncertainties: the black holes of memory.
